Are you looking for a supportive and fun women’s rowing squad in London to develop your rowing skills and race at local regattas? The MAABC Masters Women’s Development Squad is the perfect crew for you!

We’re a friendly and committed group of women rowers of all experience levels, based at Mortlake Anglian & Alpha Boat Club (MAABC). Whether you’ve just graduated from a learn-to-row course or you’re returning to the sport after a break, we provide a welcoming and structured environment to help you grow into a confident and competitive rower.

Who We Are

Coached by Michael Tchoubouroff, our squad brings together women from diverse rowing backgrounds. Some of us are new to the sport, while others are building on years of rowing experience. What unites us is our passion for rowing, our team spirit, and our ambition to compete and improve.

When We Train

We run coached water sessions twice a week. During the dark winter months, we have been doing a a double session on Sundays, but this may revert to one Sunday session and one evening session during the week once the days get longer.

We also follow a structured training plan throughout the week, which consists of erg pieces and weights. Some members arrange to train together whilst others complete the work in their own time. Either way, we ask members to log their results so we can track commitment and progress, which is taken into account when selecting crews for races.

What We Focus On

Our training is designed to develop both sculling and sweep rowing techniques.  We aim to compete in a range of head races and regattas, challenging ourselves while having fun along the way. Michael, our coach, also organises two rowing camps every year,  which is a highlight for both technical development and team bonding.

Beyond the Boat

Rowing is more than just training—it’s about community. We love getting together for social events, whether it’s post-row coffees, dinners, or celebrating milestones. These moments off the water help us build friendships that make our squad stronger.
