Development Squads
What do you do next after you have learned to row? At MAABC we think it is very important to enable members to bridge the gap between their first introduction to rowing and becoming a fully fledged, independent member of the club so we have put the following arrangements in place.
Club Saturday pm coached session – On Saturday afternoons at 2pm there is a coached session open to all members. This is aimed at those who want to improve their technique – hopefully you can pick up some tips to work on during your unaccompanied outings. Sometimes you don’t even have to get in the boat to learn better technique!

Masters women development squad – A number of our developing rowers were fired up by the chance to race in the Hilda Mitchell Cup so we have set up a squad specifically geared towards getting them up to speed for more serious racing. Club coach Michael Tchoubouroff looks after this group – with two coached water sessions per week and a training plan for all to follow. The squad has recently competed in a number of head races and looks forward to some regatta racing this summer.
Please contact membership@maabc.com if you are interested in joining the women’s development squad, or would be interested in helping to set up a men’s development squad as well.
Finally, some recent learners have joined the Mixed Masters Recreational Group, who go out Tuesday & Thursday at 10am and Saturday at 2pm. The Mixed Masters consist of some with long experience on the Thames and others who have returned to rowing after many years. They would welcome new members from LTR or simply interested in getting exercise on our beautiful stretch of river.
