Borne at Chiswick Bridge Regatta 2022

Entries are now open on BROE for this year’s Borne at Chiswick Bridge Regatta which will take place on Saturday 7 May 2022.    Racing takes place over 1000m from a free start between Chiswick Bridge and Kew Rail Bridge. Entries close at 5pm on Sunday 1 May. Draw to take place on Monday 2 May. The poster for this year’s regatta is here. Hello everyone, We are all looking forward to the club opening up on Monday 29th March. This message is to remind you of the precautions we all need to take to protect ourselves and each other. Message from the Captain regarding meeting COVID protocols at MAABC

Dear Club Member, Now that the lockdown is being lifted and London is in Tier 2, rowing in all types of boat can restart from the morning of Wednesday 2nd December. This is largely along the lines of how we were before lockdown 2 - with some tightening of indoor/gym usage requirements and additional mask wearing guidance - see below. Boat-naming for Ken Williams

Ken Williams was a highly valued member of MAABC who died in 2018. To show appreciation for him as an active member and Vice President a new pair was named Ken Williams on 12th November. Ken’s daughter Zoe christened the boat and his son Russell said a few words. The boat naming included many former members of Horseferry Rowing Club where Ken was a member before he joined MAABC. Ralph Howard: MAABC’s oldest Vice President – 101 years old

Ralph Howard, our oldest Vice President, was born in Berlin on 22 April 1918, where he first started rowing. With the rise of Hitler and the Nazi regime, non-Germans were being told to leave Germany.  In Germany, you took the nationality of your father. Ralph’s father was Czech and his mother Polish - so no choice but to leave where he was born, leave his mother in Berlin and go to his father’s birthplace in Czechoslovakia.
