Two Scullers head pennants for MAA
Many congratulations to Jen Bailey and Daisy Wild who respectively won Women’s Masters A and D yesterday. And commiserations to Anna Ramsden who missed out to Daisy by only 0.5secs. Every sculler who completes that course is a winner but Blyda Hefer’s performance was more than that. She finished in under 30 mins and beat 9 other scullers (including two from our next door rivals) in her first ever race. Also proving that an elderly club Burgashell can still race competitively. Well done Blyda! Hilary

MAA wins at Great Ouse and World Masters
Great Ouse Last Sunday saw MAA racing in a new event for the club - the Great Ouse Marathon. At 22 km this is not for the faint hearted - and conditions were apparently particularly tough. Jen said “we were all very broken by the end”. Luckily both club entries won - the girls 4+ of Jen, KB, Rebecca and Hannah and Dan (Roberts) in Masters 1x. Well done both crews! Boat Naming 27 July 2025
The club named an impressive 10 boats today with the focus on Vice-Presidents who are still involved with the club or contribute in various ways. Peter Hoile was Captain and Treasurer and is always the first in the queue when something needs doing. Peter subbed for Mike Asher, who provides the Tide Tables that we all rely on every outing. Lawrence McVeigh was Captain nearly 60 years ago and provided our new flag. Richard McEvoy - another past Captain and Fire Officer. Kingston and Henley Masters
Last weekend the club raced at both Kingston and Henley Masters. The highlight of Kingston for me was seeing our new development crews racing. Well done Sharika and Michael for organising and coaching this group and thank you Sharika for adding a piece on this group on the MAA website. The aim for the crews in their first “away” race was to get safely to the start (on a very busy river!) and down the course - which they duly did. A Super Saturday for MAA/Happy 80th Birthday Peter Hoile
Congratulations all round for a hugely successful day yesterday Firstly to the committee of Barnes & Mortlake who put on a fabulous regatta. They were helped by an excellent number of their club members, including many newer ones, who did long stints in the kitchen or on the bar, drove launches and did spotting duty. It was a day to be very proud of our club. It was also great to see former club coach Valentin bring his boys from Kings Rochester school and to see them beating Imperial in the final of open 4x.
