On a rare sunny and flat day at Holme Pierrepoint the annual Home International Regatta took place, a private match between selected squads for England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales with Mortlake having representation in the English and Welsh teams (full details at the end of this post).
The first race of the day with Mortlake interest was the the Lwt W 2- with the MAA crew from the summer season lining up in opposition with Starz Watterston in the England boat and Beks Edgar in the Welsh. It proved an exciting start to the day with a close race between the former crewmates, with England taking the victory and Wales closely following in second place.
This was followed up by further victories for the MAA athletes in the England team with Fran Rawlins and Anna Roots taking a decisive win in the Lwt W 2x to achieve a clean sweep in their racing this season. Later in the day Fran and Anna teamed up with Nikki Spencer from Nottingham (Starz’s crewmate from the 2-) and Charlotte Taylor of Putney Town (who had earlier won the Lwt W 1x) to win the women’s 4x.
