Mortlake Anglian & Alpha Boat Club (MAABC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Valentin Piticariu as the Director of Rowing for MAABC for the start of the upcoming 2017/18 season in September 2017.
Valentin will lead the current team of experienced voluntary coaches at MAABC, whilst adding significant experience from his own international level rowing career and subsequent coaching activity. Recently Valentin coached at Team Keane for the past three years, running and leading groups from inexperienced beginners through to competitive racing groups. Prior to this he coached back in his home country of Romania after he left the international rowing scene.
Valentin brings significant international experience to Mortlake having won world championship gold and silver medals in both sweep and sculling events at Under 23 level in 2005 and 2006, and competed in various European and World regattas through until 2011. He will also bring extensive experience as a strength and conditioning coach to the off the water, training activity. Valentin Piticariu said “I am honoured to have this opportunity to build and develop the club’s coaching system to increase the competitive capabilities of the squad. Our aim is to improve performance levels and maximise potential results for our competitive rowers and scullers, whatever their level of experience.”
Nicola Dale Club Captain said “The appointment of this new and additional coaching position is testament to our commitment to increase the opportunity for club squad members to maximise their capability and gain results in the top domestic regattas and beyond, or the local regatta circuit.”
MAABC is aiming to be competitive in racing from novice, through intermediate to senior squads in both rowing and sculling for both men and women. We have an established women squad, but are also actively seeking younger men who are looking to develop their competitive racing capabilities.
We are proud to have a well equipped onsite gym, and like to think we offer one of the best places to row from on the Tideway!
Welcome to MAABC, Valentin!
Training will kick off on the weekend of September 2nd/3rd 2017 with a squad season starter meeting at 11am. Experienced rowers, scullers and coxes who wish to race and train are welcome. Interested in joining? please contact captain@maabc.com for more information.
