This past weekend saw MAA’s squad of senior women racing at the Metropolitan Regatta on Dorney Lake  – with a chance to test this new squad’s progress and decide crew and boat options for Henley Women’s and Royal Regattas.

The regatta format merges Championship, Club, Academic and Junior crews into finals after a time trial – to give closely matched and exciting racing, albeit not against crews you might encounter at the Henleys.

On Saturday MAA entered two 8s and a 4x (that’s a total of 20 rowers plus two coxswains). The first 8 came 8th on the E final in a time of 7min 0 secs and the second 8 second in the H final and the 4x 4th in its D final – no time for either of these two.

On Sunday the squad slimmed down to one 8 and two 4x. All crews improved on the Saturday performances (and in the finals from their time trials) – the 8 came 5th in the D final in a time of 6 min 53 secs, the first 4x comfortably won its C final in a time of 7 min 06 secs and the second 4x came 3rd in the E final in 7 min 51 secs.

An excellent start to the summer’s racing. It was great to be there on the Sunday to see the squad racing so well and to witness first hand the fabulous spirit across the group. Well done all!
