MAA retains Hilda Mitchell cup

Congratulations everyone for a great day on Saturday. This year’s Hilda Mitchell had grown in number of events - including a Beginners Tub race - and MAA had representation in 11 of the 13 events and 13 crews in total. It was an excellently busy afternoon on the beach. MAA got off to an early lead and this then changed hands with Quintin - with wins for the two MAA women’s over and under 60s 4x, the Senior women’s 4-, the under 60s mixed 4x and the Development Women’s 4x (who first had to beat the other MAA crew in [...]

Boat Naming 27 July 2025

The club named an impressive 10 boats today with the focus on Vice-Presidents who are still involved with the club or contribute in various ways. Peter Hoile was Captain and Treasurer and is always the first in the queue when something needs doing. Peter subbed for Mike Asher, who provides the Tide Tables that we all rely on every outing. Lawrence McVeigh was Captain nearly 60 years ago and provided our new flag. Richard McEvoy - another past Captain and Fire Officer. Hilda Mitchell success/new coached development squad

Many thanks to everyone who helped make Saturday’s Hilda Mitchell Cup such a success. From the catering team, to the umpires, launch drivers, finish judge, bar staff, organisation team liaising with Putney Town and Quintin and the fabulous live music, it was a huge club effort and a great fun day. And we also won the racing. Officially the trophy was jointly won by the “Middlesex bank” of MAA and Quintin over the “Surrey bank” of Putney Town. Mortlake Veterans’ Lunch 2025

Mortlake Rowing Club and Anglian Boat Club merged in 1962 to become Mortlake and Anglian Boat Club. The Mortlake veteran members decided to have an annual lunch and, after a decade or two, allowed some Anglian and Chiswick veterans to join in. In recent years veterans have traveled from as far afield as Ireland, Turkey and Feltham to join together at the Union Jack Club (some of our veteran rowers are also veteran servicemen), lately accompanied by partners or children to make sure they don’t get lost on this new-fangled tube thing. Club Christmas party – great fun and £ raised for charities

Many thanks to the many members who helped make our new format Christmas party such a success. Particular thanks to Clare Blanchard and Sarah Thomas who stepped in to replace husband Paul and Rob Carpenter and helped Giselle produce an amazing spread of food. And despite a ticket price of only £10 we reckon to have made around £200 profit on the event (pre bar profits) and which we will donate to the Trussell Trust food bank.
