Another head – another MAA pennant

Congratulations Jen Bailey and Katy Brooks, who won the Intermediate 2x pennant by 5 secs over TSS  in today’s pairs head. They were the third fastest women’s crew overall - beaten only by Leander and Reading University Championship doubles. No hoped-for Masters pennants - Kat and Caroline produced a very fast time in Masters E2x but lost out to a Henley crew. There was a great atmosphere at the club - on the beach beforehand and on the balcony afterwards. A great advert to visiting clubs. Many thanks to all members who gave their time this weekend to make this [...]

Rowing Forum for Men and Women at Mortlake, Anglian and Alpha Boat Club

MAABC is starting a development programme under the direction of Director of Rowing, Valentin Piticariu. Following a successful year for the Women’s Squad, we are looking to build on this and also develop a Men’s Squad after nearly 10 years without one. We will be holding a Rowing Forum on 15th September at 11.00am and would like to invite: men and women under the age of 35 who have been away from the sport for a while and also men and women under the age of 30 who would like to learn to row to come and find out about [...]

Metropolitan Regatta: MAABC Senior Women hotter than actual surface of the Sun

The weather may have been roasting this past weekend as hundreds of rowers descended upon Dorney Lake for Metropolitan Regatta, but the MAABC Senior Women's Squad was hotter. Taking advantage of the 3 weeks of the year when Britain actually experiences sunshine, Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd June saw 5 MAABC crews competing across 4 different boat classes (plus an MAABC guest star rowing in a composite crew).  Knowing this was their last chance to experience competitive lane racing before Henley Women's Regatta, the girls came ready to eat, nap and row really, really fast. Saturday Saturday morning started nice and early [...]

MAABC Success at the Indoor Rowing Championships

Captain Nicola Dale writes that two members of MAABC won at the British Indoor Rowing Championships last Saturday with a third member also doing particularly well! Kaila Engelsman won the Open Women's event in a cracking time of 7:01.6 even writing this makes me feel exhausted.  We are incredibly proud of this and perhaps we should consider naming one of the new ergos after Kaila.  There is an excellent article on Kaila's success and her ambitions on the WeRow Life website. Additionally Jennifer Aitken came in 4th which was a superb effort with a time 7:19.1  - and thirdly Natalie [...]

The MAABC Senior and Masters Women’s squads push on at the Pairs Head 2013!

Last weekend saw the first head race of the season with over 400 entries attending the Pairs Head. The womens senior squad was able to be part of a composite crew with PTRC as well as field three other MAABC crews. The composite crew with Francesca Rawlins (MAABC) and Charlotte Taylor (PTRC) won not only their category of Elite Womens Lightweight 2x, but also took the accolade of Head of the River. A fantastic result for the two of them. Their next challenge together is the British Rowing Championships this coming weekend The other MAABC crew fought hard and finished [...]
