Four pennants at Bedford Spring Head

James took a trailer of smaller boats up to Bedford yesterday to race through the many bridges there. The format of the event, with multiple divisions over a relatively short course, allowed for lots of doubling up and the girls will have known the bridges well by the end of the day.   Lots of excellent results - too many to list here but the 4x of Rebecca, Katy B, Jen and Jade won Band 1 4x, Fran and Katie B won Band 2 2x, Katie R and Sophie LW won Band 3 2x and Katy B and Jen [...]

Veterans Head pennant!

Congratulations to the Women’s Masters D4x of Caroline, Anna, Kat and Jo - who won their Veterans' Head pennant last weekend by just over one second from long term rivals Eton Excelsior.  Well done also to the G4x crew who swapped from sweep to sculling as their 8 fell victim to injury and illness and came third in their class, to the Women’s B8 who came 5th and to the MAA/TTR G8 who came 4th. Many thanks to all the club members who helped out over the weekend - especially the launch drivers and umpires without who these events could [...]

Great results at the Head of the Nene

The senior girls went north on Saturday to enjoy the tranquil waters of the River Nene at Peterborough. Flat tyres on the trailer and a truck reluctant to start made for some challenges for James - thank you Kevin and Paul for helping out here - and who had a 14 hour day out from the club. Luckily the results made the trip worthwhile. Division one over the shorter course saw Barbara and Victoria racing in Women’s Masters and Women’s Band 2 1x respectively and Katy B and Jen in Women’s 2x - but for time only as the sole [...]

4 Pennants for MAABC

A busy club weekend and some great results.Stand out performance from Saturday’s Fours Head was the 4x of Rebecca, Jen, Katy B and Jade - who came 4th out of 23 crews in Women’s Club 4x. The other 4x and the 4- also finished in fast times and confirmed this year’s squad is making very good progress.Sunday saw a large turn out of club Masters crews in the oldies race, with Rebecca and Katy racing again, this time with Claire and Tina (friend from Boston) to easily win WB4x. The WD4x of Caroline, Anna, Kat and Jo G also won [...]

Another head – another MAA pennant

Congratulations Jen Bailey and Katy Brooks, who won the Intermediate 2x pennant by 5 secs over TSS  in today’s pairs head. They were the third fastest women’s crew overall - beaten only by Leander and Reading University Championship doubles. No hoped-for Masters pennants - Kat and Caroline produced a very fast time in Masters E2x but lost out to a Henley crew. There was a great atmosphere at the club - on the beach beforehand and on the balcony afterwards. A great advert to visiting clubs. Many thanks to all members who gave their time this weekend to make this [...]

MAA win Novice pennant in Scullers Head

Many congratulations to Jen Bailey, who successfully negotiated some challenging conditions to finish in a time of 25 min 34 secs and win the Women’s Novice pennant by 49 seconds. Jen was greeted back to the shore by jubilant squad mates and appropriately showered in bubbly. The boat Jen used, a near 20 year old empacher, was donated to the club by the widow of former club coach Geoffrey Potts, who himself had raced very successfully in that boat for many years. You did Geoffrey proud Jen. Results from all club members were highly creditable and showed the benefits of [...]
