The Masters Women’s squad travelled to Nottingham for the British National Masters on Sunday 19th May.
Reaping the benefits of excellent training over recent months, Laura Campbell, Chrissie Greenhalgh, Anna Ramsden & Jo Gapper got off to a great start in their straight final of WMasC IM3 4x, beating Falcon, the previous year’s winners, by a length.
Next up were Alice Poole & Louise Pattison in an WMasD/E IM3 2x straight final – their first attempt at both multilane racing and stake boat starts! A respectable 4th place out of 6 was achieved for these Novice racers. They then headed back out onto the water for their focus race at this event, the straight final of WMasE Nov 2x and a well-earned Silver medal was achieved.
The quad then returned to the water to race a straight final of WMasB IM3 4x. A good race was had and the results of a photo finish were required to establish that Falcon had pipped MAABC to the gold by 0.5 sec and therefore Laura, Chrissie, Anna & Jo had to settle for Silver at this younger age category.
Lynda Elms also competed at championship level WMasE/F 1x but alas no medal.
An exciting day was had by all in what was surprisingly good weather and racing conditions.
Big thanks to Ben Papworth, coach of the Masters Women’s squad, for his support running up to the event and throughout the day.
