Five finalists and 2 wins at HWR 2010
Congratulations to the entire squad for an outstanding performance and set of results at Women’s Henley.

Once again , Mortlake were the top performing club at the regatta with crews reaching 5 finals and winning two events namely the The Rankine Trophy for Elite Lightweight Quadruple sculls (Helen Ralston, Rachel Hutchinson, Sarah Cornick and Kara Wirt) and the The Vesta Cup for Elite Lightweight coxless fours (Lorna Brown, Rebekah Edgar, Penny Ladkin and Alexa Sladowska) having set a new course record on Saturday in the heats, a record that had stood for 15 years and was set by the GB National Squad crew, Nautilus in 1995.

Particular congratulations to Rachel, Kara and Alexa, winning their first Henley Women's medals - although I'm sure every win is special to the others.

The LW2x of Anna Townsend and Ruth Sander who have recently been selected to represent England at the upcoming Commonwealth Regatta in Canada, narrowly lost to Reading University by 1/3rd length in a very tight race and a new course record.

The Intermediate eight had lost to Thames at the Metropolitan Regatta a few weeks ago by 4 to 5 seconds but had moved on considerably during the past couple of weeks. They produced their best row in the final rising to the occasion where they lead Thames by a third of a length at half way where it looked like they could win but Thames fought back impressively to win by ½ length in what was a thrilling race in a new course record.

Amy Propsting reached the final of the Women’s Open singles by beating Fran Nicholls, another Mortlake sculler, in a hard fought semi final having beaten Matilda Pauls from Sport Imperial in the quarter finals, an ex GB Lightweight international and who has recently been elected for the Commonwealth Regatta in Welland, Canada in August.

In the final Amy was up against Jus Burke of Thames who had competed in her single at the GB Final trials in April in Hazelwinkel and had already represented Great Britain in previous years. Amy raced exceptionally well throughout the regatta but unfortunately could not match Jus Burke in the final.
